According to a research study featured in the Telegraph (UK), just three in 10 people in Britain are “happy with their lives”, a new study has revealed. One of the major reasons people are not happy with their lives, is because they feel they are incapable of changing it in anyway.
Asides financial reasons, a very common thing stopping people from doing something that they know will take them to the next level is confidence.
Fear,a lack of courage, is simply a lack of confidence.
It stops peoples from pitching that idea, applying for that job, asking for that pay rise.
It stops people from getting to where they need to be.
Confidence is courage.
Confidence is a magnet for success.
Confidence is a comfort, and it is power.
I am a confidence coach and I have chosen this line of coaching because confidence is something that I possess naturally but have developed even more through mind management, affirmations and transformational thinking which I teach to my clients.
In this blog post I will briefly highlight the pillars of confidence, the three main virtues you need to be confident thus become a better version of yourself and live a happier life.
Confidence as a child of consistency
What is confidence?
Confidence is the outcome of the thoughts we think and the actions we take (forbes.com)
Confidence is a skill that can be trained, through repetition and through consistency.
Doing things over and over and over again. From working on your craft, to speaking affirmations, the repetition makes it all real.
If something is persistently and incessantly consistent, you cannot ignore it
It becomes real.
Same thing with confidence.
Have you heard of the 10,000 hour rule by Malcolm Gladwell.
He suggests that it takes 10,000 hours of learning and practice to be a master at a skill.
The ability to practice will allow you to be sure of yourself and your capabilities.
However, many of us give up after the first failure.
We give up because we believe that failure is the end of the road, but it isn’t stumbling block can become a stepping stone, and failure sometimes can serve as the point of redirection
As one of my mentors will say “do not be afraid of failure, but when you fail, fail forward”.
“Confidence Is strengthened by the number of times you get up after a failure”.
“Persistence and consistency births and trains and confidence”.
Confidence as a trust:
Confidence is a trust, trust in yourself, trust in something beyond and above you which I call “Godfidence” which trust and confidence in God.
Might I mention that “self-esteem” and “confidence” are not the same
Self-esteem refers to what you think of yourself, how you like yourself.
Confidence refers to how sure you are of yourself do you trust what you think of yourself?
This trust can be built and strengthened by affirmations and praise of positive behavior. The best time to nurture confidence as a trust is when you are young, so if you are a parent, be mindful of the words you plant in to your child’s life. As those words, form a mindset and thus a reality, which brings us to our last pillar.
Confidence as a mindset:
Confidence is a mindset; and mindset is molded by what you choose to believe.
There are two things to consider when molding mindset:
- Your interpretation of experiences and situations in life.
- Affirmations and how you affirm yourself
Your interpretation of experiences and situations sets you apart from the crowd.
We cannot control certain things in life, but we can control how we respond.
How we respond is a direct result of our interpretation.
When you are down on resources, instead of saying you have no money at all, consider saying “I’m being taught how to manage the millions I am receiving”.
They say lack is a teacher, but many do not learn the lesson
When you shift your mindset to focus on the positive of a situation and confess the positive that you do not see.
It strengthens the assurance you have in yourself and your life.
Confession of the positive, saying what you want to see even if you do not see it is basic Affirmations 101.
