5 Tips to Build your Confidence Starting Today

Confidence can sometimes be hard to build up, especially when the circumstances surrounding you are not ideal. So instead of beating yourself up about trying and failing to build up your confidence, take each day one step at a time and do it right. We are all born with an innate sense of confidence, however, this sense of self-confidence can be broken down or built up by our family, friends and associations throughout our life. How then do you build your confidence if it has been broken down?

A confident person:

  • celebrates others
  • is willing to take risks
  • speaks with authority
  • admits their mistakes and learns from them
  • is not easily offended
  • maintains an open posture
  • is able to accept a compliment
  • Does not stop learning
  • is optimistic.
  • does what they believe is right, even if it’s unpopular

Tips for building your confidence

There are many things you can do to build your confidence. Many of them will be mindset changes; others are physical or change to your environment. These changes might take some time so be gracious and kind to yourself every step of the way.

1. Remind yourself of  the things you have achieved

A quick and easy way to build your confidence is to remind yourself of your achievements. It’s easy to lose confidence if you believe you haven’t achieved anything. Make a list of all the things you’re proud of in your life, whether it’s getting a good mark on an exam or learning a new skill. Whenever you are feeling down remind yourself of how far you have come and how well you have done.

2. Practice gratitude

Give thanks for everything you have and even for the things yet to come When you practice gratitude and make a list of all your blessings, you will realize all the good in your life. So much so that you will begin to focus more on the positives and leave the negatives.

3. Positive self talk

You are your own cheerleader. However, you can also be your biggest critic. Silence your inner critic by reminding yourself of who you are and why you should not doubt yourself. A great way to do this is by practising everyday affirmations. This will help you grow to build your confidence in yourself.

4. Have a positive mindset

A positive mindset is crucial if you want to build your confidence. Being positive makes you let go of your self-doubt and look more toward your capacity and abilities. In building your confidence, having a “can-do” attitude is the best way to go.

5. Be true to yourself

Stop trying to be someone you are not. You should not be copying anyone. You should also give time for introspection and making positive changes where needed. Otherwise, be original and stop trying to be trendy and just be yourself.
